Update:

In case you haven't noticed, there is an additional child in our family photo. I would like you all to meet the newest member of our family. She is the pretty little 7 year old in the purple dress. "Eloise" now has a little sister. We have decided to call her, "Amelia Bedelia".

Tale of the Stow Away Pineapple Plant

While we were camping out at our church, shortly following Hurricane Katrina, Someone brought us some fresh pineapples. They were a God send. Don't get me wrong, we appreciated all of the meals provided even if they were things like Vienna sausages and cold Raviolis straight out of a can. Though we weren't starving, real produce seemed like a miracle. We made short work of cutting and serving said pineapples. As we were discarding the juicy remains my daughter dove into the trash and carefully hoisted out a pineapple top. She quickly ran and scratched out a little hole next to the side door of our church and tenderly put the decapitated fruit to rest. Some of the other children knocked it over and Eloise cried and quickly replanted it. After a couple of days and several episodes of this event I finally told her that she couldn't guard the plant for the rest of her life-besides the thing look dried up and dead- and that she would have to throw it away. She proclaimed that I was wrong and that her pineapple would live. I forgot about it.......
...She didn't. It turns out that she hid the top in one of my flower planters outside of our temporary living quarters. A couple of months later I was sitting outside when I noticed this green thing poking up out of the middle of my flowers-What in the world could- it was the lonely little pineapple plant. My daughter had been secretly caring for it all of this time. Since then she has rescued two more pineapple tops. At first she would run outside every day to see if there was a baby pineapple. I got on the net and read up on pineapple plants. I had to break the news to her that many commercially bought pineapples will grow a plant, but will not flower or fruit without the use of strong chemicals. Her resolve was unwavering. So any way here we are almost four years later and my husband calls to me, "come see." When I walked out the back door this is what I found:

No, it's not a pineapple yet. It is a flower, but not just a flower. It is a testimony to the simple faith and persistence of a child.

BROTHER SEAN, THE RETURN ON YOUR CHURCH'S INVESTMENT....

I can only begin to explain the wonderful things that are happening at our church. At the beginning of this year our pastor announced that we were going to embark upon a "Year of Prayer and Fasting." What this means is that every day of this year every member of the church is praying for revival and the recovery of our church and city. In addition, at least one person is to be fasting each day. The pictures below are just a glimpse of what God is doing in response to this intense effort.

These pictures(taken a couple of Sundays ago) are of three of the children that I have been bringing to church. I'm sorry, but I don't have pictures of the awesome services we have been experiencing...it wouldn't be the same any way. Suffice it to say that I now know beyond a shadow of a doubt that moving back to rebuild was what God planned for our lives.
***P.S. THIS MORNING WE BAPTIZED 5 MEMBERS OF SISTER EVANGELINE'S FAMILY!
DURING THE EVENING SERVICE, SEVERAL PEOPLE WERE FERVENTLY SEEKING THE HOLY GHOST.
***P.S.S. If you have stumbled across this post and aren't sure about all of this, I would urge you to read the book of Acts in the new testament of the Bible; particularly the second chapter.**
YOU CAN'T SEE ME RIGHT NOW, BUT I ASSURE YOU I WAS SMILING THE WHOLE TIME I WAS POSTING THIS.

Playing Tourist in Our Own Back Yard...

These lovely ladies(below) took me out as a graduation present.
First we visited a local farmer's market.

If you look just above the plants (above left) you will see a black butterfly that kept darting in and out of the plants and around the customer's heads.

Above and below are some of our loot. The fuzzy looking plant below is called lamb's ear. It is unbelievably soft. I thought Eloise would appreciate it. I was right.

After we left the farmer's market, we headed for La Madelaine's where we enjoyed a delicious lunch and each other's fellowship.
"K" was here, but all of the pics that she was in didn't come out clearly.

After lunch, we went "Junkin" as we ladies in the south are fond of calling it.

I didn't buy anything, but I love looking at old stuff.
I saw a couple of old strollers like the one above.
Isn't it sweet?
Well any way we had a blast playing tourists.
Thanks again to my two amigas!

Thanks To My Wonderful Family......

Without the support of my husband and daughter, I wouldn't have made it this far. Tonight I received my Associate of Science in Teaching degree. With their encouragement I should be able to finish the requirements for my Bachelor's degree as well.

P.S. Eloise won 2nd place in the 3rd grade Poetry category for the entire Parish & her little friend also won for her grade level. Way to go girls!

Memories in the making....

This weekend I get to play hostess. One of the young men in our church is dating a young lady from out of town. Tonight is our annual Spring Banquet. As you can see from the picture, it is a formal event. I hope our guest enjoys her stay. She has a beautiful spirit and we have enjoyed having her.

Thanks for a job well done!

My daughter just informed me that I completely forgot teacher appreciation week. What? When? How? These were some of the questions I asked. It turns out that it was last week. I certainly don't want my daughter's teacher to think that we don't see all of the hard work that she puts into her class. She goes above and beyond the call of duty. One time this year she called on a Saturday just to check on Eloise, because she had a rough day on Friday. Also, I know that she is an excellent teacher, because I have personally dropped in unannounced (I can do that because I work there) and she is always involving the children in wonderful activities... so, I took Eloise to pick out a gift certificate and "thank you" card. The picture above is what the card and certificate looked like after they paid a visit to our arts & crafts room. I love, love, love ribbon!

Today, I kissed the brown bag goodbye!

Many of you know that I have been sick a couple of times this last semester. I truly believe it is because I have been so busy that I haven't been eating, sleeping, or exercising properly. Well , now that I have a little time off I started taking my daily vitamins again. I also started exercising yesterday and today I treated myself to a gourmet meal. It has always been an unspoken rule in my life that I save the best of everything for company. I usually eat the ends of the bread and use the mug that has a chip in it. Don't get me wrong, I love treating my guests. I especially love the smiles on their faces when I serve something yummy, but today I decided to treat myself. Instead of grabbing the bread and making a turkey sandwich for lunch.... I went all out. I even used the good china! I must say that I impressed myself. It only took me 15-20 minutes and it probably cost me less than $4. Who says being frugal or healthy has to be boring?
